One of the reasons I ordered so many beads recently is that I wanted to do some necklace that fade in and out again. I love those, but my “pallet” was running low on shades and colors. The second one in this batch is this one, with a fern that I cast using the lost wax casting process. I made a blue/ green fade beaded necklace to go along with it. The necklace has so many beautiful blue & green stones! Green Garnet, Jade, Prwhnite, Chrysoprase, Emerald, Tourmaline, Moss Agate, Adventurine, Chrysocolla, Aquamarine, Chalcedony, Sapphire, Apatite, Amazonite, and Kyanite, as well as Rainbow Moonstone and Labradorite.
Here is what I have told you about ferns in the past:
Ferns are so amazing! Before moving to the Pacific Northwest, when I thought of this area I envisioned ferns and redwoods and rocky coastlines. And that is exactly how I still see this paradise that I now get to cal home. I love ferns even more now that I am surrounded by them! The Old Farmer’s Almanac website, thealmanac.com, has this to say about ferns: “This ancient family of plants—which lived BEFORE dinosaurs walked the Earth—has a prominent place in folklore and legend. Ferns first show up in fossil records from a time over 100 million years before dinosaurs walked the Earth. In fact, ferns grew before flowering plants existed... Long ago, people couldn’t explain how ferns reproduced since they lack flowers or seeds. Therefore, fern seeds were thought to make one invisible. Today we know that ferns truly don’t have flowers or seeds. How do they reproduce? They have “spores.” With sunlight and photosynthesis, the spores grow into what is called gametes which are able to fertilize the sperm and start to move it into the fern plant. This is completely different than anything that happens with any other sort of flower! No wonder people were confused... Since the seeds couldn’t be seen, they were believed to be invisible.
The back of this necklace says “unfurl”, not only a reference to how ferns grow, but also a reminder to allow your self to let go, to loosen up, to grow how you are meant to.
